1853 Great Britain JC Harter Entire cd Manchester-Boston, MS No Stamp Unpaid Entire with writing pertaining to the discussion of a failing crop, and the subsequent increase in prices, as well as other cereal crops, and prices for the coming season from J C Harter and Co, Manchester. Entire has a blue unframed MANCHESTER AU 19 1853 cancel on front, a Black 24 cachet, and a green 19c Due to UK cachet on front. From 1840 a series of distinctive Liverpool handstamps were used on mail sent to North America, in 1849, the rates for these were agreed upon, and single rate became 1/-. Proportions agreed upon were sea postage 16c, Great Britain inland 3c, US 5c. Th efigures struck on the letter were usually the full charge, and the proportion credited to the country receiving the charge. Normal combinations for single rate include 24, and 3, 5, 21 and as seen on this entire, 19. Entire sent to Boston, MASS, USA, and has a Liverpool transit cancel on back dated to AU 20 53, and a receiving cancel on back. Entire has some tear damage to back flap and top edge, some scuffing on edges and corners, some marking on both sides, some vertical creases through entire and a horizontal crease near bottom edge, and some general wear.
