1861 Great Britain Entire ties 3 Stamps cd London-Melbourne
Entire with a 1d reddish Brown Die 2 perf 14 Deep Rose Red QV Stamp and 2 4d White Paper Watermarked Large Garter Rose SG66a QV Stamps all on front cancelled with a Horizontal Lined Inner Diamond 11 (Either Enfield or Chelsea, London) cancel on stamps. Entire also has a boxed LONDON DE 26 61 cancel on back. Entire sent to Walker, Sloane and Co, Melbourne, VIC, Australia with a receiving cancel on back dated to MR 22 62. Walker, Sloane and Co became just Sloane and Co in 1862. This Company was formed by Alexander Sloane, who emigrated from Glasgow on the "Victory" in 1849. In 1856 he was a Merchant and pastoralist in Mortlake, VIC, but in 1864 he Purchansed Savernake Station, Mulwala, NSW. The Company balance shees are in Charles Sturt University Regional Archives. The actual letter here is surrounding wool and casks of Tallow. Entire has some vertical creasing on sides, including through middle stamp, some toning on stamp edges, some damage to left side of middle stamp, some tearing on back from opening, some toning on back and some general wear to both sides. Very interesting Entire with a interesting story surrounding the receiver.
