1963 Argentina Reg Ice Island Cover 2 stamps cd Ushuaia-Fletcher's Ice Island Registered Cover with a 5.6P blue The 50th Anniversary of the Postal Union of Latin America Airmail stamp on front and a 12P Carmine Brown local Motif stamp on back, both cancelled with a ramed ISLAS ORCADAS DE SUR 22 FEB 63 ANTARCTIC ARGENTICA cancel on stamps. Cover was sent to a Radio Post station in Ushuaia, with a Framed RADIOPOSTAL USHUAIA 21 FEB 64 cancel on back, as well as being sent to the leader of Fletcher's Ice Island at the time prior to this receiving. The cover has numerous cancels and cachets on both sides, indicative of it travelling around different locations, from Antarctic Naval Bases to Buenos Aires, which was likely where the sender actually lived. While Fletcher's Ice Island is now melted, it used to be an important weather reporting station and research facility in the 50s and 60s prior to the advent of satellite technology. The cover has a registered label on front and has been opened at back flap. Cover has some scuffing on edges and corners, and some minor age and general wear to both sides.
